Onboarding: Collective impact for computer science education

We estimate that you will need up to 30 minutes to complete onboarding:

  • View two videos: 5 minutes.
  • Complete required tasks: 25 minutes.

In this course, you will use two web sites, Scholar and GoToTraining.

  • Scholar is the course web site where we will be working together. You can work in Scholar at any time, from anywhere. In this course, you will receive instructions, share with your peers, and work on your main project in Scholar. Learn more about Scholar
  • GoToTraining is the software that we will use to meet as a group once a week for discussion.

Please follow the steps below to get started with Scholar and GoToTraining.

Once you are onboard, look for Updates in your course Community in Scholar to find out what’s next for Orientation Week.

We have prepared a set of video tutorials so that you may complete onboarding by following them along, step-by-step. They are intended to be useful even to people with only limited digital experience.

1. Create your account in Scholar.

You will need to:

  • Create your account in Scholar; and then
  • Join the course community (Step 2).

Important:

  • We recommend that you write down the Given Name, Surname, and Username for future reference.
  • You will need to recall both the E-mail you used to register and the Password you created every time you log into Scholar.
  • Click on Create Account only after you have ensured that you will be able to recall both Username and Password.

2. Join the Community: Collective Impact for Computer Science Education.

After you have created your account in Scholar, you need to join your course’s Community.

3. Register for the weekly discussion group

The weekly 30-minute discussion group will be held as a virtual web meeting every Wednesday at 9 a.m. Pacific / 11  a.m. Central / 12 p.m. Eastern on January  18 and 25 and on February  1, 8, and 15.

  • You only need to register once.
  • You will then receive automatic notifications 1 week, 1 day, and 1 hour before each session.
  • You will then receive instructions on how to join the group each week.
  • If you are connecting from a mobile device, you may be asked for a Training ID: 677-393-068.

You are required to participate in the Wednesday discussion groups.  If you have a legitimate reason for absence, you will be provided with the session recording.

The course will end with a one-hour digital Commencement Ceremony on 9  March 2017 at 11 a.m. Central to recognize the achievements of the group. Selected participants may be invited by the course team to present their course work.

Once you have completed this step, please note:

  • From this point on, everything you need will be found in Updates from your course team. These will be posted in your course Community.
  • You will receive e-mail from Scholar (via noreply@cgscholar.com) to notify you when new Updates and comments are posted in the Community.
  • Only the weekly discussion group takes place outside of Scholar.
